Definitely the perfect title for the past weekend. Good times were had by all. On Saturday Marc and I had a very leisurely morning, slept in, got our work-outs in, packed the car followed by nice lunch out at our favorite lunch stop (Centrepointe Cafe and Deli). Then we were off - quick stop at Sbucks for a chai tea misto and couple of cookies and we were on our merry way to Toronto.
It was so pleasant to not be jumping in the vehicle at 7 a.m. and bracing ourselves for an eight hour car drive. The trip to Toronto was uneventful. I think our favorite part of the drive to the big city is reaching Port Hope - this is when we can pick up 102.1 on our radio. This is one of the best radio stations out there - great music and intelligent radio personalities. Got settled in the hotel and then it was out for dinner with Fearless Leader and his better half. Thanks to Fearless, Marc and I were able to chill out watching Tim Johnson's documentary - 9 Ball Diaries. Attention cyclo-cross racers - pick up this DVD - excellent.
We raced on Sunday at Riverdale Park East. Excellent location for a race - good location, nice venue, close to restaurants, bakeries, and real washrooms. There was a big crowd out to watch the Ontario Provincial Cyclo-Cross Championships. The cold weather and slushy ground notwithstanding. The best part of the weekend - apart from racing was hanging out with my little bro and my sister-in-law. These two are the superfans - excellent cheerers, good at holding a myriad of coats, gloves, hats for all the desperate cyclists - thanks guys! After my race, I had a blast zooming all over the park with Gregory and Liz to cheer on Marc, Steve and all the other Ottawa boys racing. Definitely a highlight of the weekend.
Got out of the city quite quickly after Marc's race. Made a quick stop at a Chinese bakery on Broadview (just past Gerrard) to pick up some sweet buns and we were on our way home. Pretty smooth car drive and we were home by 8:00. Finished off the night by flaking out on the couch watching Gordon Ramsay. This guy is awesome - he might come off as seeming harsh but really all he wants is excellence.
So the weekend was good. Very good. Fun racing. Quality time spent with my brother and sister-in-law. Awesome watching Marc race. Good conversations with friends. Saw some old and new faces. Smooth travel and a fat grey cat to great us at the door. Good times indeed. The $50 for being the most aggressive female rider and the top step on the podium were mere gravy to this weekend.
Way to go Champ! Top of the world.
